The Cola Wars have just hit dizzying new heights.
Iran's ZamZam Cola is apparently proving to be a solution for those millions of Muslims looking for a 'viable Islamic substitute' for Coke and Pepsi.
I strolled out of my local mosque last friday to be confronted by the sight of a van, its rear doors flung open, packed full of cola bottles. The two men standing outside were doing remarkably brisk trade, yelling 'Get your Islamic Cola...come Brother, get your Islamic Cola!'
Will we see Middle East tensions spiral from defence and government directly into trade and consumer products? Will we see anti-US sentiments translate into a slow trickle of post-hegemonic products? What's next? The Islamic Barbie? Keep your eyes peeled.
The BBC reports that it's selling well in Saudi Arabia. I've heard that it's doing pretty well in France too.
