Indian Women and the Net


"The internet is beginning to have a revolutionary effect on the 700 million people who live in villages in India - and the charge is being led by women." The BBC reports on how 80% of the Internet cafes and kiosks which are bringing the Net to rural Indian villages are run by women, and women are leading the way in adapting the Net and its offerings to village life. Meanwhile, Rajesh Jain blogs the spread of ATMs and other banking services for India's poor.
