Holzer's Truisms Fly in New York City...Hopefully

"ABUSE OF POWER COMES AS NO SURPRISE"

Fans of the mid-90's art site, adaweb, and students of postmodernist cultural production everywhere know the name of culture hacker Jenny Holzer. Her "Truisms" are whacks on the head that can jar even the most jaded with their observations on power, society, and personal identity. NY public art group Creative Time is hosting Holzer's Truisms this weekend, in the form of a squadron of airplanes pulling messages northward along the Hudson River. Best viewing along the Hudson waterfront in New York and New Jersey. Brisk winds cancelled the flights last weekend, so be sure to call 212.206.6674 x2 for an update before you go.

Update: At some point, while I failed to pay attention, adaweb was put back online as an archive. Check out these experiments in using the web as an art medium and means of distribution, sometimes disturbing and prescient.

Wow! I had forgotten how simultaneously fun and unusable it was.
