We'd like to raise US$10,000. That would be enough to make a concrete impact in the lives of a number of people: to, for instance, build a new medical clinic (though the precise project will be chosen after consultation with local NGOs, as is usual with AfH projects).

Any reconstruction efforts should carefully consider the absolute certainty of such large ocean waves in the future. This has happened before and will happen again. Also think about sustainability with techniques such as permaculture.

"Im Canadian, it has ocurred to me when I donated to the international relief funds that the credit card companies will reap a bonanza off the donations if they charge the charities a transaction fee.

While I do not mind the fee for my personal purchases I do see it as an unconscionable windfall off the misery of the event.

A way to change this is to get a campaign against the visa mastercard amex people to make the exeption for transaction fees in this unprecedented event it will release further tens of million dollars for the relief of misery ."
