How to Be a Giraffe
Alan AtKisson, 8 Apr 05

"Stick your neck out." For over twenty years, the folks over at the Giraffe Heroes Project have been collecting stories of ordinary people who "stuck their necks out" for the common good. This is the kind of stuff that helps you get out of bed in the morning with the thought, "Hey, I could be one of these people. Or better still: "Heck, I am one of these people! I just have to stick my neck out a little further!"

I was reminded of the Giraffes and their excellent work by reading a copy of Giraffe president John Graham's amazing speech to the graduating class of the U.S. Airforce Academy. Heart of Darkness meets Gandhi's Experiments with Truth. Don't miss it.

If we can cultivate the qualities described in this moving speech within us, and call upon the skills and smarts often demonstrated by contributors to this list, we might just have a chance.

Think spiritually, act technically.
