In a world creaking under the weight of population growth, access to birth control and family planning information is one of the cornerstones of a brighter future. It's good to remember how recent that access is, even in the developed world, and how many women everywhere still don't have it.
I bet it's not a coincidence that Europe's (well, Italy's, & a couple others') population peaked and began to decline about a generation after the arrival of the pill.
