Austin's campaign for plug-in hybrids

My hometown – Austin, Texas – has a city government and utility company that support a number of clean energy initiatives. Austin Energy's green power program is #1 in the nation in sales, and Austin is taking the lead in developing a forward-thinking Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) strategy.. Green Car Congress reports on Austin's plan, which is "viewed as a model that will be used by communities across the country." The plan includes City Council support, local seed money from Austin Energy, commitments for fleet orders from local government, and a grassroots petition drive to encourage automobile makers to mass-produce PHEVs.
