DIY Wind

We talked last week about home wind power, with several readers adding suggestions about good places to look. Well, all you home wind power enthusiasts (and who'd have ever thought there were so many of you?) now have an opportunity to show off your windpower chops: GotWind is holding a DIY wind generator competition:

Rules:

Maximum cost (don't include labour costs) £100 ($175).

Must produce a minimum of 20 Watts @ 12 volts.

Must be a complete unit, generator, mounts and blades.

Components must be readily available, (scrap parts are acceptable).

You have six months to get your design together.

This design was in the last issue of Make magazine. It seems pretty awesome - am hoping to build on here in Malawi!
