War and Environmental Peace -- A Sneak Peek Into the Headlines

Environmental security and environmental peacemaking may offer one avenue towards building sustainable prosperity in war-torn areas. The excellent Environmental Change and Security Program has posted a set of story ideas for journalists. The titles alone are worth mulling over:

What lies at the roots of Nepal’s deadly Maoist insurgency? [answer: population, deforestation]

Do “peace parks” live up to their name? [intriguing, but not an easy fix]

Can the U.S. military build peace by encouraging environmental cooperation? [sure as shootin']

How do population dynamics affect conflict? [think youth bulge]
