I received an email today from David Stairs, founder of Designers without Borders. San Francisco based graphic designer Wendy MacNaughton is in Nairobi at the moment on her way to the DRC (Congo) to participate in that nation's first free election in over forty years. In 2000 she help to instigate a 'get out the vote campaign' in Rwanda. Here is her story (links fixed)
