I am very pleased to be able to formally welcome the latest member of our team, Leif Utne.
Leif has been a journalist, activist and social entrepreneur. Leif worked at Utne Reader for eight years (his father, Eric, founded Utne). At the magazine, Leif served in a variety of editorial and business roles, including Webmaster, Online Managing Editor, Associate Editor and most recently Staff Writer. Leif also worked closely with the groundbreaking online community Cafe Utne -- now an independent nonprofit organization called the New Café, of which he is a board member. In 2001, he was named a "New Media Hero" by AlterNet.org, and his article “Don’t Cry for Argentina was picked as one of Project Censored’s Top 25 Censored Stories of 2003. Leif also co-founded the Let’s Talk America project, a "nationwide initiative to heal the political chasm in the United States through bridging conversations."
Leif is coming on as Worldchanging's Publisher. He'll be looking at all the ways the site itself makes money, or could, and helping us think through and implement some innovative new approaches to bringing in the revenue we need to be able to do the kind of cool stuff we all want to do.
I personally couldn't be more excited, or be more looking forward to working with him. Leif is a bright, funny, cutting-edge guy who really gets what Worldchanging is about and wants to help make this organization more stable while reinforcing the things -- like our editorial independence and depth of content -- which make it special.
You can find out more about Leif on his personal blog.
