Worldchanging as a Holiday Gift

Article Photo

A little more than a year ago, we asked for your help in putting the Worldchanging book at the top of the Amazon.com charts, explaining that a big, optimistic book on serious subjects from a smaller publisher was unlikely to survive long enough to make a difference unless readers showed that the book had an audience.

Together we succeeded. We didn't just put it on the best-seller lists: over the last year, the book has really taken off, garnering hundreds of rave reviews, being adopted as a textbook in college classes, being translated into other languages (the French edition is already out) and winning awards for its content and design.

Now we need your help again. We need the book to do well again this holiday season in order to keep it on the shelves and in people's minds over the coming year.

Please consider giving Worldchanging as a holiday gift this year (or, if you don't yet have a copy, buying one for your own library).

We think this book matters. Hundreds of people have taken the time to tell us that Worldchanging changed the way they think -- about the planet, about its problems, and about how to play a part in solving those problems. But don't just take our word for it, or theirs. Listen to some of what Al Gore has to say in his foreword:

Today, facing so many problems, many of us find it very difficult to envision a better future, much less the kind of solutions that might make such a future possible. That’s why this book is so vitally important. Worldchanging: A User’s Guide for the 21st Century is a compendium of solutions, some little known but well proven, some innovative and new, some bold but as yet untried. This book not only shows what is already possible, but also helps all of us imagine what might be—in our own homes, in our communities, and for the planet as a whole. Taken together, these solutions present a picture of a future that is not dark or catastrophic, but one that is full of hope and within our grasp.

To build that future, we need a generation of everyday heroes, people who—whatever their walks of life—have the courage to think in fresh ways and to act to meet this planetary crisis head-on. This book belongs in the library of every person who aspires to be part of that generation.

We're still a tiny NGO. We don't have a publicity agent or a PR company or even a marketing department. Our publisher (while wonderful) is still a fraction of the size of the big publishing corporations and there are some real limits to what it can do. If this book is going to continue to find its readers, it'll do so in large part because the people who already know it's good help keep it successful.

So, please, help us keep this book front and center this holiday season by showing that it has strong support and buying it today on Amazon, Powell's, B + N or at your local independent bookstore.

You'll feel good, your loved ones will score a great (and ecologically sensitive) gift, and worldchanging ideas will continue to spread.

Any plans for an ebook version? As part of my personal effort to be more environmental friendly this year, I have not bought any physical books at all.

No doubt your polymer book is one step ahead of traditional paper books, but there are still energy costs in the distribution.

I bought three last year for presents and they went over big. I just bought another on Amazon for my niece for this year.

Vielen dank, moncay! Thank, PD.

Morituri - we'd like to do an ebook, but don't have our publishers signed up yet. In the meantime, the book is about as green in its materials as commercial publishing can get, manufactured with wind energy, and supportive of a good cause: if you offset the shipping, it's pretty guilt-free.

I bought the book from Amazon. I couldn't believe how much information could be packed inside this important work. Every page is thoroughly thought out and it does not "preach" to you; it just implants ideas in your mind and prods you into finding your solutions. It is impossible to read this book without changing your lifestyle.
