Don't Miss: Plutopia at SXSW
Sarah Kuck, 9 Mar 09

juketopia_tiny1.jpg If you're headed to Austin, Texas, this weekend for the infamous rock festival SXSW, be sure to stop by Monday evening's event "Plutopia." The event, co-founded by Worldchanging team member Jon Lebkowsky and Derek Woodgate of The Futures Lab, uses music, art and performance to encourage attendees to imagine an infinite number of possible future utopias.

Plutopia 2009's theme is 'Living Systems,' and will feature entertainment from local, national and international performers and speakers from the fields of futurism, technology, sustainability, media and art, including:

Music
Ian MacLagan and the Bump Band, Hipnautica, Black Pig Liberation Front, Exstus, Tolera Storm, DJ John Gomi and Beatimprint.

Sustainability
Urban Roots, Austin Green Art, Edible Austin

Performers/Speakers
The Heather Gold Show, Bruce Sterling, Transhumanist philosopher Natasha Vita-More

Art
70 art installations and exhibitions with artists from Austin, San Francisco, New York, Britain and Thailand. Notable artists include Stanza, Max More, Allucquere Rosanne Stone and Christian Kerrigan.

Plutopia will take place on Monday, March 16, 2009 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Palmer Events Center in Austin. The event is free to SXSW badge holders, and is open to the general public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at plutopia.eventbrite.com. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit EFF-Austin and Urban Roots.

If you make it to Austin, be sure not to miss this one-of-a-kind event! Plutopia 2009 will be asking attendees to think about what constitutes a "living system." Why not start the discussion now? Leave your answers below.
