

Mall culture in the United States -- at least as we know it -- is coming to an end. As malls across the country start to fade into obsolescence, what is to become of these massive structures? Deadmalls, a site dedicated to following failing malls, tracks closings and developments, and even allows you to locate malls that are dying in your own town.

That site, dead malls, is amazing. I havve been following the impact of current recession on malls in USA (http://www.ciudadesaescalahumana.org/2009/02/la-salud-de-los-centros-comerciales-que.html) and I think we have the chance to change the way we address urban planning around consumption patterns and maybe the mall-culture is going to take, at least, a new shape. In Spain, for exmaple, there are a lot of mall projects paralized due to the crisis.
