
In 2008 Alex spoke at the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen about what we should be doing culturally and politically to transform our societies and cities to respond to our great global challenges.
"People don't change because you criticize what they're doing. Right? None of us change because we're being told that what we're doing is bad or wrong. We only change when we see the possibility of a better system, of another alternative we want more. Right? And we have not yet figured out what that other alternative is, much less present it in an appealing way to the people of the world. I thought what I might do today...is share some notes about what I think some of the aspects of the future we want might be like...I think that individual solutions are much less important, at the moment, than solution spaces. There are aspects of our culture and of our civilization that we can change and we must change...I tried to see if I could narrow down all the different kinds of solutions spaces that are out there to twenty of the most important..."
