Kamal's interests in sustainability started on a backpacking trip through the UK in the late 90s, when he happened to stumble upon one of the first ecovillages in the world, Findhorn, Scotland. Without him even really understanding what he found, this random finding became the beginning of his passion and interest in sustainable communities as well as his interest in finding better solutions in design and living.
He completed a Bachelors in Art and Design at The College of New Jersey, and upon graduating worked as a graphic designer and a design recruiter in NYC. Shortly after, he began digging deeper into studies on sustainable design. After a business trip landed him in Seattle, he knew this was the place to follow his interest in sustainable development and soon applied for and was accepted to the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) for Sustainable Business. Kamal is currently a student at BGI, a volunteer at the Seattle Tilth, and an intern at worlchanging.com.
