David Hsu

I'm currently pursuing a doctorate in urban economics and ecology at the University of Washington, which is tremendously stimulating, and where the biggest obstacle to my progress is being interested in...everything. Most of all, I'm interested in everything related to cities, particularly the fluid nature of urban life and experience, and what the shape of the city says about us, as a society and species.

Over the past ten years, I've lived in London, New York, and now Seattle, and I've worked in academia, government, finance, and engineering, always working on green planning, design, and development projects when possible. I blog occasionally on my own blog, called Complexcities, though right now I am channelling any higher writing aspirations either into WorldChanging or academic journals. I think of myself as a scientist by training and temperament, but I'm trying to learn (here and elsewhere) how to make an impact on cities through writing, advocacy, and policy.
