For the time being, I will be focusing my blogs on the subject of future urban development aimed at improving and extending human engagement and interaction.
The first of these is called Sensity, a project developed by British artist Steve Tanza, better known as Stanza. Sensity is in its third phase, (with a fourth on the way) and involves visualizing the dynamic data around various districts of London and then reproducing the data as an audio visual artwork. Stanza set up a wireless sensor networks around his local vicinity and is able to capture the fabric and life of the city space, with a view to ultimately presenting the artwork on screens located throughout the city, in an attempt to better engage habitants in their local communities.
Sensity is part of “The Emergent City series of works by Stanza for which he was recently awarded AHRC creative fellowship for three years 2006 – 2009. He has created a number of other urban community related works including: The Central City and Amorphoscapes. Stanza’s work can be found at www.stanza.co.uk.
