Ever wonder how that Krispy Krème box ended up on the side of the highway or how some of the lesser developed, lower-income locations across Austin are populated with broken bottles and other random bits and pieces of trash? I do. I wonder where the clean-up committees are when it comes to southeast of I-35.
Is it true that poorly situated ecosystems are less than equal when it comes to environmentalism’s proactive banner? On a local scale, is part of Austin’s environment to be discriminated against solely because the houses, streets and shopping centers built on one part of its skin – the natural covering formed throughout the ages by the force of nature – is considered less worthy of aesthetics than other parts of its skin in more prosperous areas of the city?
Just think about what people are looking at when arriving by plane as they peer downward to ingest the entire scenic view – not just the beauty of the west hills, the stunning Colorado River, and the Lake Austin skyline, but that unmentionable area southeast of I35. Can you imagine what blemishes are revealed from a bird’s eye view from an airliner zooming by overhead?
