Katie Macdonald moved to Austin 4 years ago from New York City to get away from the cold and enjoy the outdoors more. "I love New York, but it's too much concrete!" Four years and three jobs in Austin later, Katie spends most of her non-work hours playing in the outdoors, helping local environmentally focused organizations and blogging on her blog on the environment (http://www.mypieceofpie.wordpress.com) or for WorldChanging Austin.
Love for the environment came at an early age for Katie. The first known influence was Dr. Seuss's story The Lorax. And living in, or near industrialized cities such as New Orleans and New York, it wasn't long before Katie observed the effects of industrialized society on the areas where she lived.
Katie has a master's in journalism from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor's in creative writing from Saint Mary's College Notre Dame. She is from New Orleans, LA, but has also lived in New York, South Bend, IN, and Chapel Hill, NC. In Austin, she works for a software company specializing in social media technologies (i.e. blogging) She is happiest when she can be outside camping, kayaking or running.
