Here's an invitation from Christine Esposito to attend the Wild Things Chicago Wilderness Conference, to be held on Saturday, March 3 at Northeastern Illinois University. Walk-in registration is available at the event.
Wild Things: A Chicago Wilderness Conference for People & Nature is just around the corner, on Saturday, March 3. A lot of people don’t realize there are some 300,000 acres of protected natural lands in and around Chicago — and because of the extent of human development, that nature needs help being restored and maintained. Every weekend, rain or shine, in frigid or steamy temperatures, volunteers fan out to care for forest preserves, prairies and other sites. (Meanwhile, they get to meet other people, enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, have fun, eat, etc.)
Wild Things is a chance for volunteers who are — or would like to be — on the front lines of preserving, restoring and enhancing Chicago-area nature to exchange ideas with each other and with restoration experts. The first Wild Things conference, held two years ago, drew 800 people, who learned, networked, got inspired and then clamored for more. So the conference sponsors, partner organizations of Chicago Wilderness, organized it again for this year.
