Summer breezes bring all types of craft fairs and street fests to Chicago's neighborhoods. With most of them revolving around deep fried snacks, sketchy carnival rides and ubiquitous arts & crafts, Firebelly Design decided it was about time someone organized an alternative that focused instead on sustainability, community and independent art movements.
The Humboldt Park-based socially responsible design studio rounded up 25 of the Midwest's best designers and artists for their 1st Annual FB Art Market. Promising to be the freshest DIY design party/sale ever, the creative collective are doing it all in the name of social change. The event will feature limited edition, one-of-a-kind items ranging from sweatshop-free t-shirts and handmade couture dresses to gourmet cupcakes and recycled letterpress paperie arts. There will even be a selection of goodies from Chicago's premiere feminist sex toy shop. With the addition of some cold drinks and live DJs, this thing is guaranteed to be way better than a drunken ride on a rickety Tilt-A-Whirl. But don't just take our word for it, Flavorpill CHI gave it a pretty damn good review too.
Admission is free and 50% of all the sales will be donated to a friend of the studio who is battling stage 4 lung cancer.
11am–5pm - Saturday, June 9th
2701 W Thomas, 2nd Floor
