Linden Hills Co-op Harvests the Sun to Produce Electricity

Article Photo

The Linden Hills Co-op in Minneapolis is turning to the sun to reduce their electric bills by installing 54 solar electric panels. Innovative Power Systems installed this system which will prevent 12,500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually by using clean solar energy instead of coal generated electricity. The solar panels will generate an estimated 10%-15% of the energy used by the grocery store and the electric grid will provide the remainder. This project was made possible by 300 generous donations from individuals, families, organizations, and businesses. Chicago also has numerous solar electric systems that are the result of community collaboration, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park Bike Shelter, and the Cook County Domestic Violence Court.
