Lafayette Colorado is home to the newest affordable green community on the front range. Eagle Place Townhouses is a 12 building, 60 unit townhome community that is populated with over 400 thermal and photovoltaic panels to generate hot water and electricity for its residence.
The community is not only green, but also affordable. To live in the community, a person must earn less than 50 percent of the median household income of Boulder County residence (approximately $57,000 per year). Governor Bill Ritter made a campaign promise last year to focus on renewable energy for Colorado's future.
As Governor, I will lead Colorado toward self-sufficiency by promoting alternative energy, encouraging cleaner ways of extracting and using fossil fuels, and rewarding efficiency and conservation.
The builders of Eagle Place Townhouses are avoiding the "builder beige" of typical track homes and subdivisions around the Denver area for a more colorful pallet. Yellow and blue are not uncommon colors when walking through the subdivision. These colors were approved by the Lafayette City Council in 2006, but some residence of Lafayette call these buildings an "eyesore".
The Lafayette City Council has spoken with the builder to see of other color options are available for buildings facing South Boulder Road. Darker colors have been proposed, but no decision has been made.
Both 9news.com and the Boulder Daily Camera are running articles about the Eagle Place Townhouses.
