Design organization AIGA embraces sustainability

Article Photo

The American Institue of Graphic Arts kicked off its national convention last week with a Green Salon in Denver. AIGA's hope is that chapters across the U.S. will start their own Green Salons as a way to get designers thinking, talking about and implementing sustainablility in their professional practices. AIGA's Center for Sustainable Design provides information and resources such as "Changing Practices", "Paper and Printing" and "Carbon Neutrality".

Their new initiative "Carbon Cool" provides carbon offset benefits for designers and their studios. The cost of offsets is targetted at two areas: tropical reforestation, and a professional education campaign for AIGA to increase members' knowledge of sustainable practices.
