Micki Krimmel recently wrote about "Transforming Los Angeles into a Sustainable City." Krimmel attended a talk with the Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles, who "outlined a wide range of current and upcoming environmental initiatives addressing everything from energy and transportation to waste management and the revitalization of the LA River."
Now, for more direct, Angeleno-inspired action:
If you want to help revitalize the LA River, read this series of posts about the LA River to get educated about the state of our river now, then join the next LA River tour. You'll then be more than well-equipped to take direct, informed action!
If you want to get involved with upcoming environmental intiatives, start with the very local. Look into your closest Critical Mass events. Make sure you don't send your e-waste to landfills. And if you're feeling more adventurous, get involved with urban permaculture in LA!
The main trick is to NOT get overwhelmed with the wealth of information out there. Boil down the advice to specific, direct action -- then take it! Other steps will come in time --
