Is it just me, or is this the first year that Earth Day has felt more like an entire month and less like a single day event? If you’re looking for an offbeat way to commemorate Earth Day Eve — that storied night when all the little children are sleeping in their beds, with visions of worldchanging dancing in their heads — then check out the Create:Fixate “Down to Earth” event in Hollywood on Saturday night.
Create: Fixate is a bi-monthly (as in every other month) arts events collective that’s fast becoming a cultural mainstay on the LA arts scene. This traveling gallery/guerilla nightclub for art fans features cocktails, conversation and beautiful creative types enjoying live beats from local bands and dj’s while milling about new work from emerging and mid-career artists.
In honor of Earth Day, Create:Fixate has gathered an all star cast of green-minded orgs, like Greenopia, Global Green and Drive Neutral, to represent, and tasked the artists involved with the show to muse on the topic of sustainability and eco-awareness. (We’re told to expect ample use of recycled and reclaimed materials).
Doors open at 4 pm for the pre-show, and in an effort to get the whole family involved, kids are free until 7 pm (and encouraged to hit up the art supplies in the Kids Kreativity Zone). Early birds can enjoy a presentation of the Inconvenient Truth slideshow from Al Gore-trained footsoldier Nick Karno, a graduate of The Climate Project, from 6 to 7. (4-7pm, $5, 7pm-2am, $15).
Create:Fixate “Down to Earth” event. 1535 Ivar Ave., Hollywood, CA. Saturday, April 21, 2007. 4 pm - 2 am. $15 Admission; $5 suggested donation for Gallery Preview.
