If you took all of the parking spaces in downtown Los Angeles and spread them horizontally in a surface lot, they would cover 81 percent of the downtown land area. What happens when we devote such large amounts of land to cars that sit empty most of the time?
This question is examined at the Center for Land Use Interpretation’s exhibit Pavement Paradise: American Parking Space, an exploration of "the liminal, substanceless, and static space of automotive transience."
Exhibit hours: Fri, Sat, Sun noon - 5pm or by appointment
