I'm encouraging green city plotters to see the Robert Moses exhibit at the Museum of the City of NY before May 28. It features fabled images like his plan to turn Washington Square Park -- the largest open space downtown and a treasured world-class performance space -- into a six-lane paradise for cars. I could never imagine how before I saw the pictures, articles and artifacts on exhibit.
While the fate of Washington Square Park is still far from secure, thanks to NYC Parks' radical redesign that it refuses to make public, as described in this recent piece in The Villager, the Moses exhibit reminds us of the continual need for the public to stay involved in the decision-making process, even if it takes years. It's our city - let's make our green dreams a reality here.
