2035 Regional Transportation Plan Update Underway

The Coalition for a Livable Future is developing a set of strategies to have a positive impact on Portland Metro's 2035 RTP.

What is the RTP?

The RTP is a blueprint to guide transportation investments in the Portland metropolitan region for the next 20 years. It addresses state and federal planning requirements.

  • sets the direction and guides the planning for improvements to the region's transportation system during the next 20 years
  • establishes policies and priorities for all forms of travel – motor vehicle, transit, pedestrian, bicycle and freight – and street design and the efficient management of the overall system
  • anticipates the region's current and future travel needs based on forecasts of growth in population, households and jobs as well as future travel patterns and analysis of travel conditions
  • evaluates federal, state and local funding that will be available for transportation improvements
  • estimates costs of projects and proposes funding strategies to meet these costs.

What does the Coalition for a Livable Future propose?

  • Put People First!
...people, rather than cars, trains, buses or trucks, would be the primary focus for the decisions we make about our transportation investments.
  • Do More with Less

...optimize the current system to make it more efficient and sustainable.
  • Empower the Economy
...today’s financial and business climate depends upon a strategy that focuses on decreasing demand and integrating transportation and land use more fully.

In a more interactive manner, Portland Transport is asking readers what they would like to be addressed in the RTP:

So what kind of citizen input process do we want to use to make this choices? I have the opportunity (because of my MPAC membership) to participate in a workshop next week to scope the RTP process. What kind of outreach should we be doing and what kinds of discussions should we be having with the region to do this right?

I want to hear your ideas!

This is an exciting opportunity to put Worldchanging ideas into action by affecting the contect of the 2035 RTP.
