Draft of Portland Peak Oil Recommendations Released for Public Comment

After months of research and work, the Portland Peak Oil Task Force has released the draft of its findings and recommendations for public review and comment.

The draft report is accessible at the City of Portland's Office of Sustainable Development website. The public is encouraged to read and respond to the report via an online comment form available at the same link.

The report, titled "Descending the Oil Peak: Navigating the Transition from Oil and Natural Gas," reflects months of research and discussion by the members of the Portland Peak Oil Task Force.

Portland's City Council formed the task force after unanimously passing Resolution No: 36407. Significant support for the committee was provided by staff from the Office of Sustainable Development and others recruited for this project. The efforts are encompassed in the draft report.

As a member of the task force, it is my hope that a wide cross-section of citizens in Portland and the surrounding area will read and respond to the draft. I am pleased and proud of the work that the task force has done. However, twelve citizens cannot reflect the experiences and insights of a diverse citizenry.

Once the comment period is closed - February 12, 2007 - the input will be brought back to the task force for discussion and modification of the draft report. When the final recommendations are completed, the material will be presented to the City Council.

Please do read the report and complete the comment form.
