Last night, I was lucky enough to attend Global Green's 'Gorgeous & Green' silent auction/fashion show fundraiser to support rebuilding a sustainable New Orleans. The event was held at San Francisco's LEED certified Bently Reserve.
The silent auction included donated products from local spas, jewelry companies, exotic eco-vacation spots, and furniture. It was also catered by Whole Foods, with libations from Square One vodka, Oronoco Rum and Organic Vintners Wine.
Although the foods and fashion show took place on the ground floor, VIP attendees and the celebrity hosts were in an upstairs area:
At the beginning of the fashion show, the beautiful Salma Hayek (pictured, fuzzily, above) introduced Matt Petersen, President of Global Green, and thanked everyone for attending. Unfortunately, this was my only celeb sighting, but also in attendance on the upper floor were Leonardo DiCaprio, Ed Norton, Jonny Moseley, and Mayor Gavin Newsom - just to name a few. (At one point, Orlando Bloom came down and bought a free-standing environmentally fireplace...and I missed it!) The fashion show featured designs from Lilja Designs, Linda Loudermilk, and Lily Achatz, with a special preview of Levi's Eco Jeans collection.
There were a lot of people in attendance, and it was really interesting to see the mix of people - San Francisco swells, high fashion people, and eco-conscious purveyors. It was wonderul to have intelligent eco-conversations with so many people - San Francisco should be proud! That night, Global Green raised $300,000, well past what they had predicted.
