Green Energy from Utilities

If you live in the Seattle area, you can take advantage of renewable energy programs offered by your utility. Both Puget Sound Energy and Seattle City Light offer such programs. For a few extra dollars a month, the utility will purchase green energy on your behalf.

Puget Sound Energy's Green Energy Program starts at $4 per month for 320 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy from sources in the Northwest such as wind, solar, and biomass.. Customers can purchase up to 100% of their energy via this program.

Seattle City Light offers a similar program called Green Up!, which ensures that customers can purchase green energy, as well as help Seattle City Light invest in new renewable energy projects. The monthly cost for is $3 for 25% renewable energy, $6 for 50% or $12 for 100%.

Both utilities offer programs for businesses as well.
