If you're one of the many Seattleites whose life decisions in recent years (where to buy a house, whether to get a new car, where to launch your small business...) have been colored by the impending arrival of the LINK light rail, then I don't need to tell you that this weekend is going to be a big one for the Emerald City. Sound Transit is hosting a grand opening, featuring free rides and accompanying festivities all day this Saturday and Sunday (see the Sound Transit site for details and updates ... or look to the Post-Globe for an analysis of launch-related expenses).
Whether or not the massive crowds turn out as predicted (and there's some concern that they won't, due to a possible "fireworks effect"), I will definitely be in line to board the Link Light Rail with the masses this Saturday.
Personally, I'm psyched to head south from downtown and meet up with friends in Columbia City for the historic tour, pancakes and dance parties surrounding the CC and Othello stations ... and to stick around for a glass of wine on the patio at Verve.
Let's kick off a bright future for our new regional train, learn to get comfortable on it, and explore the many neighborhoods we'll now have much quicker access to. I hope to see you there!
